“HOW TO HONOR MOMS”

INTRO: What are the characteristics wives and moms desire in their husbands and sons?

I. The First Mom (Gen. 1:26, 28; 2:8, 15, 24-25).

What kind of man did God make for the first woman, wife and mom?

A. A godly man (1:26a).

B. A man who exercises dominion over his circumstances

     (1:26b, 28).

C. A man who has a safe, pleasant place to live (2:8).

D. A man who has a job (2:15).

*Notice, the first man had all these things in place before God gave him a wife and child!

E. A man who can both leave and cleave (2:24).

F. A man who’s unashamedly transparent with his wife (25).

II. The Virtuous Mom (Prov. 31).

How should such a woman be treated?

A. Her children and her husband should rise up and call her

     blessed (v. 28a).

B. Her husband should praise (“halal”) her (v. 28b).

C. What a husband should say (v. 29).

D. A woman who fears the Lord should be praised (v. 30).

E. Let her personally benefit from her work (v. 31a).

F. Allow her gifts to be utilized & celebrated publicly (31b).

III. The Loved Mom (Eph. 5:21-33; 6:1-4).

A. He is submitted to others (v. 21).

B. He loves his wife as Christ loved the church (vv. 25-27) –

     gives himself for her, making her whole and radiant.

C. He loves his wife as he loves his own body (vv. 28-29) –   

     He’s sensitive to her pain, needs & desires.

D. He’s a functioning member of the church (v.30; Col. 1:24)

E. He honors his parents (6:2-3).

F. He’s a good father (6:4).

CONCLUSION: Your mom and wife and children deserve and desperately need such a son and husband and father. Are you? Such a man should be respected (Eph. 5:33b).
